PINT Scores High Marks with USC's Viterbi School of Engineering Content Management System

Posted:

PINT recently worked with the USC Andrew and Erna Viterbi School of Engineering to develop a custom built Web site with extensive content publishing capabilities. The USC Viterbi School of Engineering faced many of today's university Web site challenges, requiring constant updating and site maintenance due to the sheer volume of content. Other issues included the need for creating up to date engaging content that needed to be delegated from programmers to content creators.

PINT custom built a flexible publishing solution that provides a broad range of features and requires absolutely no programming experience on the part of content contributors. Unlike most Web site editing tools, this system offers the ability to edit every single page on the site, with complete control over text, layout and navigation elements. Individual user privileges can be granted allowing users to have different access and authority in each section of the Web site. Additional features include a customizable workflow, which enables content managers to draft, review, approve, and publish content changes depending on individual user privileges, ensuring that all content is correct prior to being posted to the live Web site. The system ensures that visual page formats remain consistent and speeds up the publishing process.

The PINT content management system could act as a platform to consolidate all the University Web sites for centralized management and control of content. More importantly, it will enable students, staff, and faculty to create and publish Web pages creating workload efficiencies and lowering the overall cost of site maintenance.

Its more than 3300 graduate students pursue degrees in over 25 fields; the USC graduate program in engineering is listed as sixth in the nation (third among private schools) in the U. S. News and World Report rankings for 2004. With over $135 million in external funding support, the school is among the nation's highest in volume of research activity.

More than a third of its 165 faculty members are fellows in their respective professional societies.
