PINT & University of California, San Diego (UCSD) collaborate on next generation Web sites
Posted: 03.28.01PINT, Inc. announces the redesign and launch of three different Web sites for UCSD. Each site was independently developed to address key issues within the specific site, while maintaining the overall functional and aesthetic requirements set forth by the University.
UCSD (www.ucsd.edu):
PINT developed this site and incorporated the following features:
- A complete visual redesign of the previous site. The new site implements and expands on the new UCSD branding and uses rotating home page images to keep the site looking fresh. The new site is designed to degrade gracefully from version 4 to version 3 browsers to accommodate older browsers.
- The development of custom templates. These allow internal UCSD staff to implement the new site look while maintaining individuality within each division that utilizes these templates. The templates are available to all University departments through the Web Guidelines Web site www.ucsd.edu/guidelines (outdated).
UCSD Blink (blink.ucsd.edu):
PINT worked with UCSD to formulate an internal, portal-style Web site that provides an attractive, clean, consistent interface to service the university's wide range of computer users. PINT's services included logo design, branding, site graphic design, and user interface consultation. UCSD has recently focused on usability and service presentation on the web. This new site integrates campus business information and services making them easily accessible to campus staff. PINT developed the site to incorporate the following features:
- Consistent, logically-organized, easy-to-use interface that requires no staff training, resulting in wider utilization of the services by staff and faculty.
- Flexible, graceful degrading design that accommodates different screen sizes, browsers, computer platforms, and user settings.
- Attractive custom logo design and branding to leverage the UCSD look-and-feel.
UC2010 (uc2010.ucsd.edu):
PINT worked with UCSD to design a Web site that presents printed information online and also provides a forum for all UC colleges to collaborate on the planning stages of the project. UC2010 is an initiative of the UC system to plan for the expected 50% growth of the incoming college population by the year 2010. PINT developed the site to incorporate the following features:
- JavaScript and 4.0 browser technology to present page layouts specifically tailored to the viewer's browser and screen resolution, while gracefully degrading to older browsers with a more standard static site layout.
- Logical, systematic reorganization of information and graphic design
