PINT Completes Proxima Redesign In Record Time
Posted: 11.15.00PINT Inc. (Powell Internet) announces the completion and launch of a sitewide redesign of the Proxima Web site (www.proxima.com - outdated). Proxima, a leading manufacturer of multimedia projectors and presentation products, tasked PINT to implement a complete redesign of their site, which contains nearly 500 hard-coded pages. In the past, PINT has created and implemented multiple site designs for Proxima, created database-driven maintenance tools that allow the client to update pages without significant use of HTML coding, and developed Cold Fusion applications that dynamically generate pages based on the contents of the Proxima product database.
For this redesign, Proxima selected Fusion Media (www.proxima.com - outdated) for the design phase of the project. Fusion Media provided PINT with graphics for the new site design, as well as DHTML (Dynamic HTML) code for two new pulldown menus: a "quick picks" menu that appears on every page of the site, and additional sidebar navigation for the site's products section.
PINT's graphics, content and programming teams were all involved in this project from the start. The graphics team's primary task was to optimize graphics, create additional side navigation buttons and section headers in the new style as needed, and build basic page templates. The content team adapted page templates for the various sections of the site, and undertook the daunting task of transferring all site content into the new templates. The programming team fine-tuned the DHTML menus for optimal use in Proxima's server environment, and, even more importantly, merged existing Cold Fusion programming with the product side navigation DHTML code provided by Fusion Media.
The real challenge in this project was the timetable: the client wanted the redesign completed and launched in time for a major trade show that opened on Monday, November 13. PINT received the final design and DHTML code from Fusion Media on November 2. Proxima suspended all in-house maintenance on November 3. PINT completed the project on Friday, November 10, allowing the client and the PINT Quality Assurance team ample time to review the entire site over the weekend. The rest, as they say, is history.
