PINT Re-Engineers Kyocera's North America Site

Powell Internet Consulting, LLC (PINT) announces the restructure and redesign of the Kyocera North America Web site. PINT has implemented significant top-level site changes for Kyocera's North American group and four subsidiaries: Kyocera America, Inc., Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corp., Kyocera Optics Inc., and Kyocera Electronics, Inc.

PINT employed ColdFusion technology to create News, Careers, Contact, About and Help sections for each of the five sites; each area can be updated independently by employees of the appropriate company. ColdFusion has also been applied to integrate certain areas of the five sites: the most recent news item featured in each company's News section automatically becomes one of the five news items featured on the primary Kyocera North America home page. Randomized product images assure each subsidiary equal time on the home page.

Because these sites are large and complicated, PINT steamlined site navigation by creating a Kyocera North America home page that uses dynamic menus for the many subareas of the five sites. Built with DHTML (Dynamic HTML), these menus use hidden, layered images to create multiple site maps within a limited screen area. Because older browsers may not process the JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheet technologies used to implement this effect, PINT also used browser sensing to redirect older browsers to different versions of the home page.

The Kyocera North America site can be viewed at www.kyocera.com.

For full effect, this site is best viewed with version 4 browsers or better—but it's guaranteed to work on older browsers, too. So far, PINT has focused only on the top levels of these sites, but future plans include further work on the Kyocera America Inc. site and others.
