Thomas A. Powell, a recognized Internet expert and best-selling author, releases his latest work JavaScript: The Complete Reference (Osborne/McGraw-Hill, September 2001). The book was co-authored by Fritz Schneider, one of Powell's Graduate Teaching Assistants at UCSD and a current PINT employee.

This comprehensive text is the latest in a series of best-selling textbooks by Thomas Powell and appeals to veteran developers and novices alike. The book covers a wide range of topics and is divided into six sections:

  • Part I covers the fundamentals of JavaScript and includes in-depth discussion of language features as well as the interaction of JavaScript with browsers
  • Part II introduces the features the browser makes available to scripts (browser's object model) and how JavaScript fits in
  • Part III focuses on utilizing JavaScript effectively in real-world problems, from controlling browser windows and frames to implementing DHTML menus to interaction with Java applets and Active X controls and other frequently neglected topics
  • Part IV-VI covers specialized topics such as security, various "flavors" of JavaScript in Microsoft and Netscape implementations, tips and tricks, and debugging advice
